HANSEATIC spirit – von Hamburg nach Hamburg

Ålesund is a port town on the west coast of Norway, at the entrance to the Geirangerfjord. It’s known for the art nouveau architectural style in which most of the town was rebuilt after a fire in 1904, as documented at the Jugendstilsenteret museum. There are panoramic views of Ålesund’s architecture, the surrounding archipelago and fjords from the Mount Aksla lookout.

Torghatten is a granite mountain on the island of Torget in Brønnøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is known for its characteristic hole, or natural tunnel, through its center. It is possible to walk up to the tunnel on a well-prepared path, and through it on a natural path.

An der norwegischen Küste nördlich des Polarkreises erstreckt sich Lappland, das Land der Sonnennächte. Auf diesen Breitengraden gehört Tromsö zu den Hauptstädten. Hier leben 52.000 Menschen, und 13.000 davon studieren an der nördlichsten Universtät der Welt. Besonders im Sommer strömen viele Besucher hierher, um die immerhellen Polarnächte zu erleben. Als eine der wenigen Städte, die während des Zweiten Weltkriegs unversehrt blieben, hat sich Tromsö seinen alten Charme bewahren können. Für 38 Tage im Jahre 1940 war die Stadt sogar die Hauptstadt Norwegens. Das war zu jener Zeit, als die königliche Familie und die norwegische Regierung darauf warteten, ins englische Exil gebracht zu werden. Die Eismeerkathedrale stellt ein beeindruckendes Beispiel moderner Architektur dar und ist eine der größten Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt. Ihre Form ahmt die eines Eisbergs nach und ihre Außenwände aus Aluminium reflektierten die Strahlen der Mitternachtssonne. Der Dom von Tromsö hingegen ist eine der größten Holzkirchen Norwegens und die nördlichste protestantische Kathedrale auf der ganzen Welt. Am Ende der letzten Eiszeit kamen Nordmänner hierher und lebten ein entbehrungsreiches Leben zwischen Gletschern und Meer. Ihre frühe Anwesenheit in dieser Gegend belegen Felsbilder. Die ursprünglichen Bewohner dieser Gegend waren die Samen, die mit ihren Rentierherden über die Heide und die Berge zogen. Viele Arktis-Expeditionen nahmen hier ihren Anfang, was der Stadt auch den Namen „Tor zur Arktis“ eingebracht hat. Nur etwas weiter nördlich befindet sich das Nordkap. Seinen Namen hat es von dem Engländer Richard Chancellor bekommen, der im Jahre 1522 an diesen kalten und unwirtlichen Gestaden vorbei segelte. Das Nordkap-Plateau, das bis zum Bau einer Straße die einzige Möglichkeit darstellte, zum Kap zu gelangen, wurde 1873 von König Oskar II. erstmals erklommen.

Lofoten Islands

Trondheim is a city on the Trondheim Fjord, in central Norway. Dating back to the 11th century, Gothic Nidaros Cathedral features an ornate rose window and a detailed west facade. Nearby, the Archbishop’s Palace Museum houses archaeological findings and sculptures, including gargoyles, removed from the cathedral. Ringve Museum is a music museum in a former manor house and barn.

The Geiranger Fjord is a fjord in the Sunnmøre region of Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located entirely in the Stranda Municipality. It is a 15-kilometre -long branch off the Sunnylvsfjorden, which is a branch off the Storfjorden.

Stavanger is a city in southwestern Norway. In the center of town, Stavanger Cathedral dates back to the city’s 12th-century founding. Stavanger Museum chronicles the city’s history and displays preserved wildlife. The Norwegian Petroleum Museum illuminates the oil industry with submersibles, a large drill bit and an escape chute. The shopping street Øvre Holmegate is known for its colorful houses.

Hamburg, a major port city in northern Germany, is connected to the North Sea by the Elbe River. It’s crossed by hundreds of canals, and also contains large areas of parkland. Near its core, Inner Alster lake is dotted with boats and surrounded by cafes. The city’s central Jungfernstieg boulevard connects the Neustadt (new town) with the Altstadt (old town), home to landmarks like 18th-century St. Michael’s Church.
