Von Kangerlussuaq nach Hamburg

Kangaatsiaq is a town located at the northern end of the Qeqertalik municipality in western Greenland. The town received town status as recently as 1986, though as a settlement it has existed much longer. It has 520 inhabitants as of 2020. Nearby settlements are Attu, Niaqornaarsuk, Ikerasaarsuk and Iginniarfik.

Sisimiut, formerly known by its colonial name Holsteinsborg, is the capital and largest city of the Qeqqata municipality, the second-largest city in Greenland, and the largest arctic city in North America. It is located in central-western Greenland, on the coast of Davis Strait, approximately 320 km north of Nuuk.

Ilulissat is a coastal town in western Greenland. It’s known for the Ilulissat Icefjord and for huge icebergs Disko Bay, shed by the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. Trails run to the Sermermiut settlement for dramatic views over the ice. The Ilulissat Museum traces the area’s history and the life of local-born explorer Knud Rasmussen. The area is home to thousands of Greenland dogs, used for dogsledding.

Disko Bay is a large bay on the western coast of Greenland. The bay constitutes a wide southeastern inlet of Baffin Bay.

Arsuk is a village in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland. It had 73 inhabitants in 2020. The name of the settlement means the beloved place in the Greenlandic language. The village is served by the communal all-purpose Pilersuisoq store.

Ittoqqortoormiit ist wie Qaanaaq eine der jüngsten Städte Grönlands und mit Abstand seine isolierteste. Der Scoresby Sund ist mit seinen Neben-Fjorden die größte Fjord-Region auf der ganzen Welt und auch der Fjord selbst ist der weltweit längste. Das Gebiet hat etwa die Größe von Großbritannien, womit jeder seiner Bewohner einen Lebensraum von ungefähr 420 Quadratkilometer bewohnen kann. Die Bewohner leben allerdings in Ittoqqortoormiit oder einer der zwei Siedlungen Itterajivit/Kap Horn oder Uunartoq/Kap Tobin dann doch ein wenig näher beisammen. Hauptsächlich das Jagen und auch die Fischerei stellen die wesentlichen Einkommensquellen der Bewohner dar. Die Gründung von Ammassalik im Jahre 1925 geht auf den dänischen Seefahrer Ejnar Mikkelsen zurück. Zu jener Zeit war die Gegend bereits als sehr guter Jagdgrund für Robben, Walrösser und Eisbären bekannt. Nur wenige Touristen verirren sich in diese abgeschiedene Gegend. Der Winter ist sehr lang und hart und das Eis bedeckt das Wasser für neun Monate des Jahres. Da ist es nicht sehr verwunderlich, dass es – wenn überhaupt – Individualreisende sind, und noch mehr solche, die eine abenteuerlich Auszeit von Allem und Jedem nehmen wollen, die sich hierher verirren. In dem Gebiet lassen sich herrliche Ausflüge machen und Sie werden sich ein klein wenig so vorkommen wie ein Teilnehmer auf einer großen Expedition; möglich sind zum Beispiel Kajak-Touren und eine Hundeschlitten-Fahrt. Auch als Ausgangspunkt für Expeditionen zum riesigen Nationalpark in Nordost-Grönland bietet sich das Gebiet sehr gut an. Der Nationalpark ist der größte auf der ganzen Welt und Menschen ohne dauerhaften Wohnsitz im Gebiet von Ittoqqortoormiit oder Qaanaaqe dürfen es nur mit ausdrücklicher Genehmigung betreten. Die Tierwelt mit all ihren Vögeln und Säugetieren ist wahrhaft außergewöhnlich.

Hamburg, a major port city in northern Germany, is connected to the North Sea by the Elbe River. It’s crossed by hundreds of canals, and also contains large areas of parkland. Near its core, Inner Alster lake is dotted with boats and surrounded by cafes. The city’s central Jungfernstieg boulevard connects the Neustadt (new town) with the Altstadt (old town), home to landmarks like 18th-century St. Michael’s Church.
