Nestled peacefully at the end of one of Norway’s most beautiful waterways, Nordfjordeid is a picturesque, hidden gem. Wander the old centre of town to find white-painted buildings brimming with cafés, restaurants, bakeries and shops, or discover unique architecture at the modern opera house or the 19th century Eid Church – home to spectacular carvings and intricate paintings. At the Sagastad Viking heritage centre you can interact with fascinating exhibits and step aboard the Myklebust, an authentic 100-foot-long replica ship based on the remains of one of the largest Viking ships ever unearthed. Visiting in the summer? Why not relax in the lush Saga Park which has its own beach by the fjord? Despite Nordfjordeid’s sleepy charm, this small village is big on adventure. Connect with the marine environment on a kayaking tour, go fishing for huge monkfish, wolf fish and mackerel, or ride a Fjord horse – one of the world’s oldest pure breeds. The surrounding emerald hillsides transform into towering mountains, and hikes in the immediate area reveal spellbinding views. Who knows, if you head up here you might even encounter the mythical Huldra – a seductive, sometimes dangerous forest creature who takes the form of a beautiful woman with a cow’s tail. If she doesn’t appear to mesmerise you, the spectacular vistas certainly will.

Kristiansund is a municipality on the western coast of Norway in the Nordmøre district of Møre og Romsdal county. The administrative center of the municipality is the town of Kristiansund, which is the major town for the whole Nordmøre region

Petite ville sympathique avec commerces et marchés, Andalsnes est également proche de la fameuse route des Trolls. Celle-ci conduit à de jolis villages, des passages à travers les fjords pittoresques et les sommets majestueux et au pont de pierre enjambatant la cascade Stigfossen vers le Trollvegen (Mur du Troll) qui – culminant à près de 900 mètres – est le plus haut dénivelé à l’Europe du Nord.

Parce qu’elle a été entièrement reconstruite après avoir été détruite par un incendie en 1904, Alesund semble assez différente des autres villes norvégiennes le long de la côte ouest du pays, maintenant mieux connue sous le simple nom de « Fiordland ». S’étendant sur trois îles à l’embouchure du magnifique Geirangerfjord, l’architecture d’Alesund est un mélange éclectique de néo-gothique et néo-classique avec plus d’une trace d’Art Nouveau. Tourelles et clochers ponctuent l’horizon et vous pourrez suivre l’évolution du style de la ville au Centre d’Art Nouveau, l’un des nombreux et fascinants musées de la ville. Une visite obligatoire est le Sunnmøre en plein air, bien que l’Atlantique Sea-Park vaille également une visite en tant qu’un des plus grands aquariums d’Europe du Nord.

Haugesund, homeland of the Viking kings and birthplace of Norway, is a place where you can inhale the Viking spirit. Surrounded by beautiful coastline, spectacular waterfalls and majestic fjords it’s no wonder the kings called this extraordinary setting home. Populated for thousands of years, you can walk in the footsteps of the great kings at the Nordvegen History Centre and travel back over 3,500 years. St Olav’s Church, dating from 1250 AD, is a monument to the former days of glory, and next to the church stands one of Norway’s tallest pillars, Virgin Mary’s Sewing Needle. In nearby Rehaugene you can explore the ‘Pyramids of the North’ – six intriguing Bronze Age, earthen burial mounds. And if you are feeling like a spot of retail therapy, you’re in luck – not only is Haugesund filled with charming markets it’s also home to Norway’s longest pedestrian street.

Understand that Zeebrugge literally means Bruges-on-Sea and you immediately appreciate why this ferry port is also Belgium’s major cruise port. A medieval jewel on the North Sea, the charming city of Bruges is just 10 miles away. Sometimes called the Venice of the North because of the picturesque criss-crossing canals on which you can enjoy fascinating and romantic boat rides, Bruges actually has a character all its own. Although it has all the facilities of a modern city – smart shops, restaurants, bars and hotels – these are all found behind the centuries-old facades and weathered gables of the historic buildings at the city’s heart. Bruges is rightly famous for its exquisite lacework, tasty chocolate and huge range of local beers while, from Zeebrugge, you can also visit another historic city, Ghent, the capital Brussels, and historic battlefield sites such as Waterloo and Ypres.
