Kangerlussuaq to Hamburg

Kangaatsiaq is a town located at the northern end of the Qeqertalik municipality in western Greenland. The town received town status as recently as 1986, though as a settlement it has existed much longer. It has 520 inhabitants as of 2020. Nearby settlements are Attu, Niaqornaarsuk, Ikerasaarsuk and Iginniarfik.

Sisimiut, formerly known by its colonial name Holsteinsborg, is the capital and largest city of the Qeqqata municipality, the second-largest city in Greenland, and the largest arctic city in North America. It is located in central-western Greenland, on the coast of Davis Strait, approximately 320 km north of Nuuk.

Ilulissat is a coastal town in western Greenland. It’s known for the Ilulissat Icefjord and for huge icebergs Disko Bay, shed by the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. Trails run to the Sermermiut settlement for dramatic views over the ice. The Ilulissat Museum traces the area’s history and the life of local-born explorer Knud Rasmussen. The area is home to thousands of Greenland dogs, used for dogsledding.

Arsuk is a village in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland. It had 73 inhabitants in 2020. The name of the settlement means the beloved place in the Greenlandic language. The village is served by the communal all-purpose Pilersuisoq store.

Ittoqqortoormiit comme Qaanaaq est lune des plus jeunes villes du Groenland et de loin la plus isolée. Cependant, les habitants se répartissent dans Ittoqqortoormiit ou lun des deux peuplements, Itterajivit / Cap Espoir ou Uunartoq / Cape Tobin. La chasse, mais aussi la pêche dans une certaine mesure sont les principaux échanges commerciaux de la région. La ville fut colonisée par des habitants de Ammassalik en 1925, soutenu par le danois marin Ejnar Mikkelsen. Déjà à cette époque, la région était connue pour être un très bon terrain de chasse pour les phoques, les morses et les ours polaires. Seuls quelques touristes se rendent jusque dans cette région éloignée. Lhiver est long et la glace recouvre les eaux pendant neuf mois par an. Évidemment, il sagit de lendroit idéal pour le voyageur seul, plus particulièrement si son rêve est de combiner aventure et rupture complète davec tout et tout le monde quil connaisse. La région offre de belles excursions en kayak ou en traîneau à chiens, et elle est également le point de départ des expéditions vers le vaste Parc National dans le nord-est du Groenland. Le parc national est le plus grand au monde et les gens sans adresse permanente dans les municipalités de Ittoqqortoormiit ou Qaanaaq doivent demander un permis spécial pour entrer dans la zone. La vie sauvage de la région est extraordinaire grâce à ses nombreux oiseaux et mammifères.

Near its core, Inner Alster lake is dotted with boats and surrounded by cafes. The city’s central Jungfernstieg boulevard connects the Neustadt (new town) with the Altstadt (old town), home to landmarks like 18th-century St. Michael’s Church.
