    Lyon

Lyon, the capital city in France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, sits at the junction of the Rhône and Saône rivers. Its center reflects 2,000 years of history from the Roman Amphithéâtre des Trois Gaules, medieval and Renaissance architecture in Vieux (Old) Lyon, to the modern Confluence district on Presqu’île peninsula. Avignon

Avignon, a city in southeastern France’s Provence region, is set on the Rhône River. From 1309 to 1377, it was the seat of the Catholic popes. It remained under papal rule until becoming part of France in 1791. This legacy can be seen in the massive Palais des Papes (Popes‘ Palace) in the city center, which is surrounded by medieval stone ramparts

Arles is a city on the Rhône River in the Provence region of southern France. It’s famed for inspiring the paintings of Van Gogh, which influenced the contemporary art displayed at the Fondation Vincent Van Gogh. Nice

Nice, capital of the Alpes-Maritimes department on the French Riviera, sits on the pebbly shores of the Baie des Anges. Founded by the Greeks and later a retreat for 19th-century European elite, the city has also long attracted artists. Former resident Henri Matisse is honored with a career-spanning collection of paintings at Musée Matisse. Musée Marc Chagall features some of its namesake’s major religious works.

Specially commissioned to sail the Rhône and Saône as part of our Sensations of Southern France river cruise, Emerald Liberté is one of three Star-Ships added to the Emerald Waterways fleet in 2017.
Custom-built to provide the most exhilarating and authentic experiences cruising through France, the Emerald Liberté will skilfully navigate the rivers Rhône & Saône when she enters into service in 2017. The standards of service, attention to food, and knowledge of wine you’d expect in France will be sewn into the very essence of the Emerald Liberté – providing on-board experience comparable with world class boutique hotels.

Completing the Sensations of Southern France itinerary, the ship exudes the same relaxed spirit as the lands which surround the rivers it sails upon. Travelling from Lyon to Avignon, the Emerald Liberté will explore culturally-rich and enigmatic cities before dissecting the wine regions and charming Mediterranean settlements of France.

The Emerald Liberté is just one of three new ships to be added to the Emerald Waterways fleet in 2017, a year promising amazing things for the river cruise world.
